Luton’s biggest street party!
Luton Cultural Services Trust’s Arts Development Unit, together with partners UK Centre for Carnival Arts and Luton Sounds Forum have been busy planning the carnival for the past year to make it a great day out for all the family.
More than 100,000 people are expected to attend Britain’s biggest one day carnival - the only event in the town where you will find a blend of Caribbean, African, Asian, English, Latin American and Irish sounds and a variety of dance, food and entertainment all on the same day, superbly reflecting the diverse mix of cultures in Luton.
This year, there is a greater emphasis on Luton’s home grown artists, DJs and MCs giving them a great platform to showcase their talents. Carnival will once again include a mix of craft, fundraising and trade stalls, mainly located in Wardown Park but with some in George Street, as well as amusements, attractions and rides. Carnival Parade
This year’s parade is set to impress first time and regular carnival goers with more than 45 different groups, clubs, schools, societies and communities taking part, bringing nearly 2000 people together in a eye catching, breath taking procession, demonstrating the diverse mix of arts, music and culture. And with the masquerade groups, sound trucks, steel bands, DJs and stilt walkers, this will be a spectacular parade – guaranteed to be one of the highlights of the day. The parade will assemble in Wardown Park, but accompanying vehicles will gather on New Bedford Road from where the procession will move off at 1.30pm. Hucklesby Way and Alma Street will be great places for people to see parade groups performing their lively dance routines and the parade judging point and performance area will be in a new location adjacent to the Moor.
